Personal Branding Strategies for Women in Business

Personal Branding Strategies for Women in Business

By Susan Friesen

How a Personal Brand Plan Benefits Your Business Brand
You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

Truer words were never spoken, and they apply to both you and your business.

If you're a store owner, for example, you know that if someone has a negative interaction the first time they visit, they're going to walk right out, and likely never come back. They might even tell a few friends.

But if they have the time of their life on their first visit to your store, you've got a loyal customer for life. And again, they might even tell a few friends.

But what about if you're someone who works with clients? Someone who hopes to be a leader, a speaker, an author, an entertainer, a consultant?

Perhaps you've done the hard work of building your business brand, with a logo and professional website to match.

But your business brand is only half the battle. Because if you want to stand out and reach your ideal clients, then you need to spend just as much effort on understanding, developing and maintaining your personal brand.

While personal branding is critical for all business people of all genders, the reality is that women are so often conditioned to be meek and mild. So while anyone can benefit from the tips I'm about to share, I highly recommend that women, in particular, listen up (so they can get the confidence to speak up and stand out!).

Why You Need a Personal Branding Strategy
Women often ask me, 'how does a personal brand contribute to my business?'

Branding takes work and effort, and business leaders are tuned in to ROI. So they often want to know how a personal brand can benefit their business, before putting in all the effort.

In short, your personal brand is a representation of your business, and people will judge you accordingly.

The reality is that people do judge a book by its cover. So creating a brand is like the cover for your business. You want that cover to not only stand out, but also to be a true reflection of who you are, and what your business is all about.

And whether intuitively or directly, most people believe that how you do one thing is how you do everything. If your personal brand is haphazard, lazy or nonexistent, that will reflect on your business whether you want it to or not.

On the other hand, when you align your personal brand with your business brand, you're much more likely to not only connect with the right people but also turn them into raving fans.

So that's the 'why' of developing a personal branding strategy. To learn more about how personal branding dovetails with professional branding on our website.

Now let's get into the 'how.'

Creating A Personal Brand
If every journey begins with a single step, then the first step on this journey is to embrance your personal brand.

That means being confident in who you are. This calls for authenticity. Honesty is important over all else in branding - being genuine builds trust, and trust builds customers.
This can be difficult for women who are often raised to be people-pleasers and all-things-to-all-people.

That's why you need to keep your target audience in mind.

When building up your brand you need to define yoour ideal client.

And then realize that only your ideal client matters.

Not everyone has to like you, and that's OK. Remember that the people who don't embrace your brand were never likely to be customers, anyway.

So be confident in who you are. Own it! Own your personality and don't be afraid to share it with the world. Embrace what makes you unique, and share it with the world.

Examples of Building Your Brand and Building Your Business
In my role, I wear lots of hats. Our Canadian-based agency provides just about every service you could require for digital marketing: logo and graphic design, custom website design and development, SEO and SEM marketing, social media marketing, content writing, copywriting, newsletters, and strategy consulting.

And while I love all my hats, I think what I love most is working one-on-one with small business owners and entrepreneurs to help them define both their personal and professional brands and use them both effectively.

It's so powerful to help women have their 'aha' moment of getting crystal clear on who they are and what they have to offer.

For example, our good friend and (now retired) client Dana Smithers is a woman who lives, eats and breathes her personal brand. Always the 'lady in red,' Dana is a shining example of integrating her personal brand with her business brand and her whole life.

Our client Katherine Hartvickson of Quantum Ascendance is another shining example of creating solid and consistent personal and professional brands.

Katherine is a high performance leadership and HR Consultant, as well as speaker and best-selling author.

She is also a powerhouse personal brander, infusing professionalism and grace into everything she does. This includes regular insightful blog posts and a longstanding social media presence that establishes her as a go-to expert.

And like we've covered, it's important to fully embrace who you are.

For example, our client Yvonne Douma isn't afraid to show her playful side! While her company Douma Leadership offers serious services to entrepreneurs looking to improve their communication skills, Yvonne brings an infectious lightheartedness to her work that her clients love.

So instead of forcing herself into the 'somber businesswomen' role, Yvonne embraces who she is, with a social media presence that reflects the fun, family-oriented person she is.

Don't get us wrong: Yvonne is a super serious entrepreneur and consummate professional who also shares incredibly insightful tips and strategies to establish herself as an expert in her field (for example, see our talk on communication skills on our website).

But that doesn't mean she needs to shoehorn her personal brand into something that just isn't her.

Branding Tips for Women In Business
So once you've got a little clarity on your personal brand, what comes next?

Here's are some tried-and-tested ways to build your personal brand:

Optimize Social Media
The best way to effectively use social media in your marketing is to be consistent and create authentic engagement.

Social media is not a tool to sell your business. Instead, it offers a wonderful opportunity to share your personal brand. Keep your social media presence consistent in order to build and enhance your personal brand awareness and develop a "know, like and trust" factor with your followers.

Learn some more tips on how to create an effective social media strategy with us online.

Develop An Appropriate Content Strategy
A good content strategy is important for so many reasons, one of which is establishing your personal and professional brands. We're all familiar with the phrase 'content is king,' so it should be no surprise that well-written content is one of the most important elements of your website and marketing materials.

Now, the right content strategy will look different for different companies. It can include:

  • Website content
  • Webinar/Teleseminar registration pages
  • Product and service sales pages
  • Blogs and newsletter articles
  • eMail Marketing / Newsletters
  • Social media posts
  • Press Releases
  • Print marketing materials
Ultimately, the goal of all content should be to showcase your brand, appeal to more clients, gain conversions and, ultimately, increase business.

If you're new to content marketing, we have some great resources to help you get started:

  • How To Create Blog Content to Attract Your Target Audience
  • How To Convert Newsletter Signups Into Customers Without Feeling Sleezy
  • How To Engage And Inspire With Interactive Content Marketing
Accept Praise With Grace
This is a personal fault of my own, and I suspect it's something many women struggle with. It's sometimes tough to respond to a compliment, but I highly recommend you take a moment and accept it. Part of owning who you are is being grateful when people recognize it.

<Advertisement.>

So instead of shrinking back and deflecting compliments, accept praise with grace

And don't shy away from your accomplishments, either! It's not bragging if you simply list your accomplishments and let them stand for themselves.

Find your Community
Surround yourself with your target market. That way, you're more likely to be spending time with people who are more likely to respond to your personal brand.

Not everyone appeals to everyone, so put yourself in places where your ideal clients will be present. Mixing water with oil will just cause you unnecessary problems.

By placing yourself in the right setting and letting yourself shine with a strong personal brand, you will lead yourself to your ideal clients. The opposite - trying to be all things to all people - just leads to hurdles that are best avoided.

You can connect with your community at networking and community events, and never underestimate the importance of a great Facebook group!

Work With A Branding Expert
If you're an entrepreneur, then I have no doubt you are good at what you do. But what you do may not be branding and marketing.

Remember, personal and professional branding takes a lot of time and effort. It can also be a little intimidating.

You'd outsource your accounting if numbers make you cross-eyed, and you'd outsource your building management if you were swamped for time. Similarly, it's often a great idea to outsource your branding and marketing if you feel like you're in over your head, or if you just don't have the time to dedicate to this important work.

That's where our team can help, with consulting and branding strategies to help you get to the next level. I can't wait to learn more about your business goals!

To your business success,

19.mycal8 -- Approach

Hexagram 19

By: James Byrd

I.The Oracle

A. Hexagram 19 is called Lin, or Nearing. Other variations are Approach and The Forest. The lower trigram is Dui: open, swamp or forest. The upper trigram is Kun: field or earth.

B. The Judgment

   1. Approach has supreme success.
       Perseverance furthers.
   2. When the eighth month comes,
       There will be misfortune.

C. The Image

  1. The earth above the lake:
      The image of Approach.
  2. Thus the superior man is inexhaustible

      In his will to teach,
      And without limits
In his tolerance and protection of the people.

II. Another interpretation

A. "Approach"

For now, the idea of this hexagram tends to move towards a leader who for now should not use force to meet his objectives, and better yet, he should use persuasion as a way of reasoning with people. The use of force at this time would be very counterproductive.

Also, we must remember that for not all is well, but the ebb and flow of time dictate that sometimes worse times do occur as a counterbalance next to good, and we are talking around the lunar month of September. Take the good with the bad, but still make way and have a contingency plan. Above all, be truthful to your students. Let humility be your tool to soften the heart of the student, use empathy.

Frontline Plus is the no.1 vet recommended flea and tick treatment for canines. Easy to apply, this topical treatment combats fleas and ticks for a whole month.

5 Easy Steps to Make Money Online Through Amazon Drop Shipping

5 Easy Steps to Make Money Online Through Amazon Drop Shipping

By Uzochukwu Godwin

There are different ways and platforms to make money online, one of them that has gained popularity recently is drop shipping through Amazon. Many people are making thousands of dollars doing this business.

Drop shipping has its advantages over the conventional online store where you have to stock the goods in your store and ship when you receive an order.

Here are 5 easy steps to get started if you have considered venturing into a drop shipping business.

1. Open account on Amazon as a Seller.

The foremost action to take when starting drop shipping business is to open an account on Amazon as a seller. There are two types of accounts that you can open: Professional and individual account. If you are starting out and not sure of selling more than 40 products in a month, it is recommended that you go for the Individual account. However, it is important you know the benefits and disadvantages of any account you are opting for.

Here are pros and cons to guide you in making decision on which account to sign up for:

For Individual Account:

You are not allowed to use 3rd party services like Repricers and Inventory Lab. You are not qualified to list your product in the Buy Box. You cannot apply to list your product in restricted categories of Amazon stores. There is $0.99 fee per item sold.

For Professional Account:

You can make use of a spreadsheet to upload various items at once utilizing the seller central. You will have access to more reports in the seller board. You are qualified to list your product in the Buy Box. You can apply to list your products in restricted categories. You will pay $40 monthly fee plus the $0.99 fee per item sold. You can build new product pages for your products.

It is important to note that you can choose to upgrade your account at any time.

2. Find the best low-cost drop ship suppliers.

Most drop shippers make good profit using the best platform- Salehoo, to find perfect drop shippers for products that they intend to sell.

To get started, sign up to paid Salehoo account in order to utilize their best tools and features. Search for drop shippers close to you that can ship faster with lesser shipping costs.

Why it is advisable to use this platform is because, most suppliers do not have budget for social media marketing, rather they carry the marketing expenses over to lowering product costs. So, they'd prefer subscribing to Salehoo than doing Google marketing.

Beside it will require more effort on the suppliers' part to achieve success with PPC marketing so they prefer a dedicated platform for it.

3. Search for low-cost but high-selling products.

When you find a supplier that suits your specifications, look through his catalogue to locate those items that are not expensive but are also selling very well. Ensure that the price difference between what is offered for that item on Amazon and what the supplier is selling is significant enough to make you some profit.

Even if you decide to source for sellers outside the Salehoo platform, the most important thing is that there is profit enough to cover for cost in time and money.

4. Write a well-detailed and search engine optimized titles and descriptions on Amazon.

Now that you are ready with your products, proceed to list them on your Amazon store. Ensure you write SEO product descriptions to enable your products rank high on Amazon search result.

5. Go ahead and start marketing your products using different digital marketing system.

You can outsource the marketing to freelancers on platform like Fiverr.

Trust me, drop shipping is not as hard as it seems. You just need to take a step!

13.mycal8 -- Fellowship

Hexagram 13

By: James Byrd

I. The Oracle

A. Hexagram 13 is Tong Ren or Con-cording People. Additional interpretations include Fellowship with Men and Gathering Men. the lower trigram is Li: radiance or fire. The upper trigram is Qian: force or heaven.

B. The Judgment

   1. Fellowship with Men in the open.
       Success.
   2. It furthers one to cross the great water.
The perseverance of the superior man furthers.

C. The Image

  1. Heaven together with fire:
The image of Fellowship with Men.
  2. Thus the superior man organizes the clans
      And makes distinctions between things.

II. My interpretation

A. "Fellowship"

With this hexagram, we see a man who for all apparent reasons joins in fellowship with others who are somewhat not of his kind. He does so because they are within close proximity to his dwelling. If he was to limit his friendship to that of his closes family ties, there would be cause for regret, being that his social adaptions would be somewhat limited in scope. To take it even further, to do so would be as the tale of “The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato, signifies. It is the story of a group of people in a cave, and not knowing what the real world is really all about, like unto an Amazon tribe out in the wildness but on a different scale. These are the people who are Becoming close net friends out in the open, allegiances.

It is the job of the superior man to know what is what and to point this out preferably to the people nearby first. To know more one must extend his or her range of knowledge of prominent current issues, not just homegrown knowledge, not to the tune of, we only use chopsticks. Because it is proper to reflect the same when a person is extending their range of knowledge about friendship.

In this passage, we see a call for universal brotherhood ill regardless of inconsistencies. To serve is to serve. Always extend service to the betterment of all into the one.

1.Mycal8 -- The Dragon - Creative

The Heavenly Tread

by James Byrd

I. The Oracle

A. Hexagram one is directly related to The Creative Principle, The Origin, hence, the source of all sources.

Another variation would be that which sustains the earth, as earth hangs from its Heavenly Tread. It is like a clock, it works or sustains this this-ness via providing the correct time for all mandated evolutional occurrences, this is only because all of the parts are as they should be, such that, why is the moon there? Equilibrium.
   1. The Creative works sublime success, like the prisoner in solitary confinement, you are within your temple, which is your solitary body. You must ready yourself with such tools as Qigong, Tai Chi, Yoga, Meditation, and any forms of activities that are deemed to make you somewhat strong-minded and untiring. In essence, always be ready for the long haul.
   2. The Creative:
The Dragon Hides and makes himself strong and untiring. The creative or on these types of days we can say, as in heaven, so as it is here on earth, like that of a raindrop, which travels from one realm to another.

B. The Image

  1. The movement of heaven is full of power
      a) Ready yourself please for long life, leave the wonders of heaven to the originator, just sustain in your uniquely given vessel, ready your body for Long Life, always be ready for the long haul
      b) Thus there is a sublime success, staying on the right path brings just rewards. For you.

II. My interpretation

A. The Creative can be seen when we view the vastness of the sky and believe me, there is also a boundary somewhere up and out there, just as a glass that holds water, or the Qi within the body, containment. Knowing when to retreat, and when to advance, only the Sage knows that, after regular meditation, it becomes a knack. Update: (6-25-19) "If you think Snake, and within the hour, you see a snake, that's solid."

   1. Again, this ability represents one who is in accord with heaven here on earth, UNION. For this date, it means the Dragon, or in a sense one who forges himself for pending or ceaseless activity. We see also with this hexagram that of the creative being both, above and below, hence, as above, so below. And don't tell me, fog. If you look at the ground you will see heaven seated there firmly on the plateau of earth, even the clouds obey.

From earth, that layer of atmosphere seated firmly on earth is the connecting aspect of heaven, more or less. Mind you now, at times, the atmosphere that directly surrounds us now, has more than average influence on our current activities, it is from above.

Now today we are under the influence of The Creative. With this, we also see the Sage who will appear to some to be above it all, yet The One who is the common cause, The Great and The Origination of Power, hence, The Darkness that surrounds all Lights. Ready Yourself, and know this, The Dragon even with his profound vastness, sustains earth by hiding within a drop of water.

Update: (The year of the Dragon begin on 2-9-24.) We are in the year of the Rabbit.  1-19-23
