September Twenty-Third ~ God's Daily Minute

“Let Thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even Thy salvation, according to Thy word. So shall have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in Thy word. And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in Thy judgments. So shall I keep Thy law continually for ever and ever.” –Ps. 119:41-44

Our Father, Who in Heaven; Thou art also upon the earth. Thou didst stretch forth Thy hand and darkness came over the earth, Thou hast stretched it forth again and light has flooded the world. We give Thee thanks for the morning light and for the sleep and rest of the night. Grant to us this day wisdom for our problems, courage for our task, patience for our toil, strength for our burdens, and faith for our enterprises. Enable us to so spend this day that our work shall be our worship. May we be “the glory of Christ” among men, commending Him and His salvation. Enable us to so spend the day that our spiritual life shall be enriched by its experiences, and our fellow men helped by our influence. Help us to maintain a conscience void of offense toward God and man. We ask it all in Christ’s name. Amen

 “I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God.” – Deut. 30:16 ~

Our Heavenly Father, we come to Thee this morning with praise and thanksgiving for Thy care and love. We are grateful for the temporal blessings Thou hast given us, and for the loved ones we have to enjoy. We thank Thee for the gift of Thy Son, and for the Holy Spirit.

We ask Thee to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Be with us this day, and help us to be kind and courteous. Help us to be more like Thee. May our eyes be opened to the opportunities for serving Thee and helping others to know Thee, Whom to know aright is life eternal.

May Thy spirit be with those, at home or abroad, who preach or teach salvation, and grant that the word preached my not return unto Thee void. Be with those in authority and may they rule with justice and equity. Comfort “as one whom his mother comforteth” those in trouble and sorrow, and strengthen those in sickness.

Our Father, hear our petition, and keep us this day without sin, for the sake and in the name of Jesus, our Saviour. Amen

He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” – Ps. 24:3-5 ~

Heavenly Father, for all the blessings of the night past and for this new day that Thou hast given us, we desire now to thank Thee, and O we pray that as Thou hast given us rest in sleep, so now may we serve Thee this day with all the strength of the life Thou hast given back to us again. Direct us, we pray Thee, in all the work of our hands this day, so that in all things we may please Thee. Help us to be kind, loving, forgiving, and ever watchful lest we offend against Thee in word, thought, or deed.

And while we pray for ourselves, we would not forget to pray for those near and dear to us—our fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, kindred and friends. Bless each and all toward whom our hearts turn with a great love, and finally bring us, unbroken family circles, to our Father’s house above, from which we shall go out no more, but shall ever be at home with Thee.  Amen

July Fourteenth ~ God's Daily Minute

 “I will praise Thee, for Thou hast heard me.” – Ps. 118:21 ~

Our dear Heavenly Father, reverently do we approach Thee, the giver of all good and perfect gifts. We give thanks to Thee for all the blessings Thou hast so graciously bestowed upon us. Thou hast kept us day by day unto this hour. We must say that goodness and mercy have followed us. We have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. For the sake of Jesus do Thou forgive all our sins. Wash us in the blood of the Lamb.

Give us grace to perform every duty in life conscientiously, and in Thy fear, O Lord. May we not be slothful in business, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. May our lives be fully consecrated to Thy service. Help us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Give us the mind of Christ. May we crucify the old Adam with all his affections and lusts, so that the new man may daily arise within us to live before Thee in righteousness and purity. Give us grace, dear Lord, to live such lives day by day, that when our end shall come we may be prepared to enter upon the rest that remaineth for the people of God.  Grant these blessings unto us, and to all our fellow men, out of the fullness of Thine infinite love and mercy, in Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour, and for His sake alone. Amen

July Twelfth ~ God's Daily Minute

 “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Neh. 8:10 ~

Our Father, help us to find the secret of the Master’s joy, that we may no longer dwell in the outer courts where our happiness comes and goes as the flowers bloom and fade. May we enter into the secret place of the Most High where He lived, until our joy, like His cannot be taken away from us.

Teach us the joy of discovering the tokens of Thy presence always – in the song of birds, the fragrance of flowers, the marvelous beauty of sunrise and sunset, but more in the ringing laughter and plaintive cry of little children, in the deep hunger in the hearts of our brothers and sisters, and in our own souls, so that we are never alone.

Teach us the joy of a friendship that leaves no hurt nor string. Help us to enter into the deep joy of sympathy with our brother’s need, the sympathy that gives insight, and knits heart to heart, until we are able to help where help is needed, and able to receive help when it is offered. Save us, O our Father, from the darkness of selfishness, and unite us with wise and tender love to those who need us, and those whom we need. All of this, and more which we cannot express, we ask in the Master’s name. Amen

 “He that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass Him about.” – Ps. 32:10 ~

Our Father, in Whom we live and move and have our being, we thank Thee for Thy care, for our home, for our parents, and our friends. We thank Thee for the joy of salvation, for the health of body and vigor of mind, for the joy and delights of social intercourse. We thank Thee for Jesus Christ, for His sacrifice for us, and for the promise of eternal life through faith in Him.

Teach us, our Father, how to appreciate Thy love to us, Thy boundless care and Thy constant watchfulness. Indicate to us the things which Thou wouldst have us to do. Teach us how to live so as to bring joy and blessing into the lives of others. Give unto us the Holy Spirit, that we may know the true meaning of Thy Word, and how to do Thy will. Help us to watch and pray as we walk in the midst of temptation. Make us to abhor evil and to cleave only to what is good. Strengthen us in the day of adversity. Protect us from the snares of prosperity. Help us to do only the things which are pleasing to Thee. Hear us, O God, in this our prayer, for Jesus’ sake.  Amen

May Fifth ~ God's Daily Minute

 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving thanks be made for all men.” – 1 Tim. 2:1 ~

OUR dear Heavenly Father, we bring unto Thee our humble offering of gratitude, for all Thy loving kindnesses and tender mercies; so graciously bestowed upon us, all the days of our life. When yesterday passed into the night, we committed body and soul into Thy keeping; and Thou didst again prove, that “He Who keepeth Isreal will not slumber.” Now a new day is ours, -- help us to appreciate its significance. It brings to us new opportunities, -- help us to see, and to use them. It brings to us new duties, -- help us to perform them gladly.

May the love of Jesus, which has touched our lives, touch others through us to-day. Keep our minds pure, our thoughts and deeds free from offense. May someone who knows not Jesus, be attracted unto Him by us to-day. Strengthen those that are weak. Comfort those that mourn. Lead every troubled and seeking soul to light and peace in Jesus. May this day see some prodigal returning to his Father’s house. And O, our Father, we pray: give wisdom, faithfulness, and courage, to all who occupy positions of trust and leadership, in church and state. May they themselves be led by Him who said: “Follow Me.”

Forgive us all our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And may “the Peace of God which passeth all understanding, ever keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Amen

 “Refoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Thess. 5:16-23 ~

Create in us a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within us. Cast us not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit form us. We commend to Thy loving protection all those for whom we long to pray (especially those whom we now name in our hearts before thee ***).

Give to them all their heart’s desire, we pray Thee, in as far as Thou seest it best, for Jesus sake. Bring each of us, O Father, to the close of this day in peace and honor. For all those who love us so much better than we deserve, we thank Thee. For their sakes, help us to sanctify ourselves this day. And do Thou, O Lord, grant that we may abide steadfast in this purpose, and by Thy continual aid be fully master of all the desires and emotions of our hearts. For Jesus’ sake.  Amen

April Twenty-First ~ God's Daily Minute

 “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after.” – Ps. 27:4 ~

We need Thee, O loving God. We are lonesome, discontented, helpless, defeated, without Thee. How shall we know ourselves aright unless Thou teach us? How shall we love goodness and strive after holiness, and know the deep joys of the soul unless Thy Spirit abide in us? How shall we be able to meet Thy just expectations unless we companion with the Most High God? How shall we bear our burdens and overcome our temptations, or be unselfish in service, or turn away from our sins or grow into the beauty and majesty of the character of Christ, unless Thou take possession of us?

Thankful we are, then, that Thou dost not withhold Thyself from any eager, hungry, obedient heart. We know that Thou art willing to give Thyself to us. Teach us how to open our natures to Thee. Help us to be obedient to Thy will, joyous in our allegiance, cooperative in all of Thy plans.

Disturb us when we go astray; discipline us when we are willful; hearten us when discouraged; strengthen us when perplexed.

Through all the experiences of our lives, fashion us into the likeness of our exalted Christ, so that we may be Thy true sons and daughters. Amen

Our Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for the peace, the rest, the comfort of the night through which we have come. We surely have reason to be grateful for Thy increasing care. Thou art ever thinking of us, and we sleep in safety under the shadow of Thy protection presence. Now we enter upon the light and blessing of another day. May it be a clean day, a glad day, an undefiled day! May no dark, impure thoughts obtain possession of our hearts! May we have the grace to put away everything that is sinful and selfish and unworthy of Thee! Enable us to overcome every form of temptation. If moments of weakness, or weariness, or doubt come to us, may we have gracious help from Thee. In our business life, our home life, with our associates, with our friends, may we be thoughtful, tender, loving, generous, ever bearing in mind that we are to have the Spirit of our Divine Master “who went about doing good.” Teach us to be pitiful, to be kindly affectioned, to speak words of gentleness, and to remember especially the Wayward, the unfortunate, the sorrow-stricken. So fill us with Thy Spirit as to make us joyous, radiant, eager for service, anxious only to do Thy Will. We ask all these favors in the Name of Thy Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
