15.mycal8 - Modesty

Hexagram 15

By: James Byrd

I. The Oracle

A. Hexagram Fifteen is called Qián, or Humility. An additional interpretation is Modesty. Its lower trigram is Gen: bound or mountain. Its upper trigram is Jun: field or earth.

B. The Judgment

   1. Modesty creates success.
   2. The superior man carries things through.

C. The Image

  1. Within the earth, a mountain:
      a) The image of Modesty.
      b) Thus, the superior man reduces that which is too much,

And augments that which is too little. He weights things and makes them equal.

II. My interpretation

A. "Humility"

Incremental steps in the form of humility with the customer is always right, this can be seen as a perfect example when need it benefits to show humility. It's just something that you should unknowingly do without alarms, challenge the behavior of the projector of the proposition in a positive way. From "The Less," to the helpful mores.

Move away from being immodesty -- to that of modesty -- because the time calls for it. Do not let your daydreaming in the guise of "Planning," interfere with what makes for an easy road to travel, be decent with the parameters of your projects. Continue trend of being modest during imaginary pitfalls. If the correct internal process is maintained, autocratic modesty is somewhat maintained. This process can be coined as the goal of the superior person. Maintaining equilibrium, making sure of a level playing field, all-inclusive at all levels are growing, freedom of growth. The low works itself up from the low to an ever higher internal positional aptitude about themselves, better seen as, "Second to None."
This process should be seen as a state of "Becoming," or following that which is good and correct, and curving internal sentiments that preoccupy our prep-planning for no apparent reason. Be modest, swim with the flow of things, for now.

15: Humility

Humility is rewarded in human affairs. It is the way of the universe to fill the empty cup and to empty the full cup, just as valleys are ultimately filled by the erosion of great mountains. Regardless of your position in human society, humility is a deceptively powerful attribute that is often overlooked. If you are in a high position but remain humble, people will be drawn to you and causes that you espouse. If your position is lowly, humility will endear you to those of higher status. True humility is a virtue that benefits all and to which all should aspire.

The most successful people are those who know how to bring situations into balance by reducing those who are too inflated and adding to those who are too minimized. Such a person strives for balanced and stable relationships, not power over others. Humility is the virtue that allows you to perceive the balancing potential in every situation. Humble people are not prey to the illusions that spring from self-importance. If humility is difficult for you, make a conscious effort to develop a bit of self-effacing humor.
