- The image of Decrease.
- Thus, the superior man controls his anger
And restrains his instincts.
II. My Interpretation
A. "Diminishing"
Hexagram 41 represents a natural process of loss. Under the given circumstances, the strong must be diminished while the weak are strengthened. This process seeks equilibrium, creating harmony and freedom from errors.
A superior man, in response, should act without caprice, curbing desires and restraining anger. This approach aligns with the wisdom of the time and the need for balance.
B. The Path of One
Walking alone can be beneficial, as it simplifies decision-making and reduces doubt about one's path. When two others join the journey, communication challenges may arise, complicating critical decisions.
Similarly, when three friends come together, one may branch off, seeking a group more aligned with his motives. While companionship can offer strength, it also invites complexities—similar to the story of the Three Wise Men, where their collective purpose might be questioned due to the dynamics of their relationships.
C. Embracing Simplicity
This hexagram emphasizes simplicity and self-restraint. By focusing on reducing excess and controlling emotions, one aligns with the principle of Diminishing, allowing for clarity and inner peace.
