The Eight Brocade Movement, or Ba Duan Jin , is one of the most popular forms of Qi Gong, often referred to as "Eight Pieces of Brocade" due to its graceful and flowing movements that resemble a finely woven piece of silk. Origins and Philosophy The Eight Brocade dates back to at least the Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE) and has been practiced for centuries as a method to promote health, enhance vitality, and support inner balance. Each movement is designed to harmonize the body's meridians, the channels through which Qi flows, helping to maintain physical and emotional well-being . This practice is deeply rooted in Taoist philosophy, which emphasizes the balance of yin and yang, the i...

Some Benefits Of Qigong

Image
Some Benefits of Qigong By James Byrd, MBA For many years now, the Chinese medical therapy known as Qigong exercise has helped to alleviate both medical and physical ailments with its concept of “ Life energy cultivation .” Qigong is primarily the Taoist art of self-healing. Close attention is paid to body movement and breath control synchronization. Qi with its meaning carries the connotation of chi or breath of life, such as a baby’s first breath of life after it is cut from the umbilicus cord of its mother, which is now sustainable Qi. Now the other half gong has more to do with body movement; work, self-discipline, meditation, and relaxation exercises. To the extent that one inhales with one movement and exhales with the very next movement, this is meant to extend the full extent of the breath range to the fullest of the stretch range. The main idea when combining the two concepts of Qi and Gong is to breathe slowly and maintain your focus on the acupun...

Meditation's benefits. (update). - Free Online Library

Image
Meditation's benefits. (update). - Free Online Library There are a number of benefits associated with the consistent practice of meditation. If done after some type of meditative exercise such as Yoga or Qi gong, which should be done before the meditation session, because it will further enhance the effects of that particular meditation session, which follows. Remember, I said it must be practiced on a consistent basis, that is if the fruits of labor are expected to be acquired adequately. I can only see doing the Qi Gong and then the meditation once during early hours of the day. It would be even better to take ten minutes of stillness during or after lunch.  I remembered once during one of my elementary school classes, the teacher would tell the class after lunch to, "Put your head on your desk," I don’t know, maybe it was to better digest that most recent meal, or a meditation session to let go and digest what they had heard during the first part of the...

Qi Gong versus walking: simple test shows which builds senior strength faster

Image
🧘‍♂️ Qi Gong vs. Walking: Which Builds Senior Strength Faster? There’s no single definitive study that universally declares Qigong faster than walking at building strength. However, evidence suggests that mind-body exercises like Qigong and Tai Chi often provide greater benefits for balance, strength, and fall prevention than walking alone: In a large randomized trial, Tai Chi (a close relative of Qigong) improved cognitive function better than fitness walking in adults 60+ after prolonged practice. This implies added neurological and functional benefits beyond just movement. ( JAMA Network ) Reviews show Qigong and Tai Chi improve balance, mobility, and physical function in older adults — which are key components of “ functional strength .” ( PMC ) Bottom line: Walking is excellent for cardiovascular health and daily activity, but Qigong (and especially Tai Chi) often outperforms walking alone for balance and muscle-control strength , making it particularly beneficial fo...
