“Even Now”: Faith in the Middle of the Moment

A short devotional reflection on John 11:22

“But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.”

When Martha of Bethany spoke these words to Jesus Christ, the situation seemed final. Her brother Lazarus of Bethany had already died. Grief filled the house in Bethany, and the opportunity for change appeared to be gone.

Yet Martha used two powerful words: “even now.”

Those words reveal a deep spiritual truth: faith does not wait for perfect circumstances. Faith recognizes that transformation can still happen in the present moment.

In life, many people face moments that feel like endings—financial setbacks, health challenges, broken plans, or lost opportunities. The human instinct is to believe that the door has closed. But John 11:22 reminds us that the timeline we see is not always the final timeline.

“Even now” is the language of trust.

It means believing that growth can still begin, wisdom can still appear, and solutions can still emerge—no matter how late it seems. The verse invites us to hold a posture of openness rather than resignation.

For those seeking purpose, resilience, and clarity, this message is powerful:

  • A new idea can come even now.

  • Healing can begin even now.

  • Direction can appear even now.

Faith does not deny difficulty. Instead, it refuses to believe that difficulty has the final word.

The story that follows in John 11 reveals that Martha’s faith was not misplaced. The moment that looked like the end became the setting for a powerful demonstration of renewal and life.

For modern readers and leaders alike, the lesson is simple but profound: hope is strongest when it speaks in the present tense.

Sometimes the most transformative words we can say are the same ones Martha spoke long ago:

“Even now.”

Reflection Question:
Where in your life might you need to reclaim the words “even now” instead of assuming it is too late?
