Psalm 145:14–16, 18

“The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.
Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.”

“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”

Psalm 145 presents God as the compassionate Sustainer of life. He supports those who are falling, raises those who are discouraged, provides what is needed at the proper time, and draws near to those who sincerely call upon Him.

The passage teaches that waiting on God is not passive hopelessness. It is a confident expectation that divine help, provision, and restoration will come “in due season.”

Hexagram 43: Breakthrough

Hexagram 43 is commonly called Breakthrough, Resoluteness, or Eliminating. It describes a moment when something harmful, dishonest, or unproductive must be confronted openly.

The situation requires firmness, but not uncontrolled aggression. Truth should be declared clearly, the danger should be recognized publicly, and decisive action should be taken with wisdom and self-control.

Hexagram 43 warns that a breakthrough can fail when people act from anger, pride, revenge, or excessive force. Lasting change requires both courage and discipline.

Comparison

Psalm 145 and Hexagram 43 both address moments of pressure, weakness, and transition.

Both teachings encourage:

• Truthfulness rather than deception.

• Courage in difficult circumstances.

• Patience concerning the proper time for action.

• Support for those who are vulnerable or bowed down.

• Confidence that difficult conditions can change.

• Responsible action rather than fear or confusion.

Psalm 145 says that God raises those who have fallen. Hexagram 43 describes the decisive moment when an oppressive condition must be removed. Together, they suggest that restoration often involves both receiving help and confronting what prevents progress.

Contrast

The primary difference concerns the source of the breakthrough.

Psalm 145 places ultimate trust in God. Provision, restoration, and protection come from the Lord’s open hand. Human beings are encouraged to wait, pray, and call upon Him sincerely.

Hexagram 43 focuses more directly on human conduct. It asks the individual or leader to recognize corruption, announce the truth, establish firm boundaries, and act decisively.

Psalm 145 emphasizes:

• God’s compassion.

• Divine provision.

• Prayer and dependence.

• Restoration of the weak.

• God’s nearness to sincere believers.

Hexagram 43 emphasizes:

• Moral courage.

• Public truthfulness.

• Decisive leadership.

• Removal of harmful influences.

• Restraint while pursuing change.

Psalm 145 comforts the person who has fallen. Hexagram 43 challenges that person to rise with determination and confront the conditions that contributed to the fall.

Spiritual and Leadership Lesson

These teachings can be understood together as a movement from support to breakthrough.

First, God upholds those who are falling. He restores strength, provides daily needs, and draws near to those who call upon Him truthfully. Then, once strength has been restored, the individual must be prepared to stand for what is right.

For leaders, this means caring for struggling people while also addressing the behaviors, systems, or decisions that are causing harm. Compassion without accountability may allow problems to continue. Accountability without compassion may injure the very people who need help.

Psalm 145 provides the foundation of mercy. Hexagram 43 provides the call to courageous action.

What truth must now be spoken clearly?

What harmful influence, habit, or condition needs to be removed?

Are you seeking breakthrough through anger, or through disciplined courage?

Psalm 145 reminds us that we do not face our struggles alone. Hexagram 43 reminds us that divine support should prepare us to act with honesty, courage, and responsibility.

The Lord raises the fallen, but once raised, we must be willing to stand firmly for truth.
