Daily Devotional: Job 1:6–7
“God Sees What Roams in the Shadows”
Scripture
“One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. The Lord said to Satan, ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan answered the Lord, ‘From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.’” — Book of Job 1:6–7
Reflection
These verses open one of the most mysterious and powerful moments in Scripture. Behind the scenes of earthly life, a spiritual reality is unfolding. While humanity goes about daily routines, heaven remains fully aware of every movement occurring on earth.
Satan’s answer is revealing: “From roaming throughout the earth.”
This suggests restlessness, searching, testing, and observing. Evil often moves quietly, looking for openings through fear, pride, exhaustion, distraction, or discouragement.
Yet the greater truth is this: God was not surprised.
Before Job ever faced hardship, heaven already knew the situation. God remained sovereign, attentive, and fully aware. This passage reminds believers that even when life feels uncertain or spiritually heavy, nothing escapes the sight of God.
Many people today feel surrounded by anxiety, conflict, temptation, confusion, or spiritual pressure. But Job 1:6–7 reminds us that darkness never operates outside God’s knowledge or ultimate authority.
The enemy may roam, but God reigns.
