How to Run Your Whole Home During a Power Outage
A large portable battery system can keep a home functioning through a blackout, but the key is load management. “Whole-home backup” does not necessarily mean running the air conditioner, electric water heater, clothes dryer, oven, refrigerator, and every other appliance simultaneously.

That 240V capability is particularly important because many major household appliances—including central air systems, well pumps and some electric appliances—require 240V.
Think in two numbers: watts and watt-hours
Watts determine what you can turn on.
Watt-hours determine how long you can leave it on.
For example, using the F3800 Plus's base 3.84kWh battery:

This explains why 6,000W output doesn't mean six kilowatts can run all night. The system may be able to start a big appliance, but the battery's stored energy determines the duration.
The best outage strategy
During a prolonged outage, I would prioritize the home approximately this way:
Refrigerator/freezer
Essential lighting
Internet/router and phones
Medical or mobility equipment
Fans or limited HVAC
Television/computers
Well or sump pump where necessary
Microwave or small kitchen appliances for short periods
Then treat central air conditioning, electric water heating, dryers, ovens and EV charging as managed loads rather than continuous loads.
For example, run the water heater briefly, shut it off, then use that available power for another large appliance.
Three ways to connect the system
1. Direct appliance backup
The simplest approach is plugging appliances directly into the F3800 Plus.
This requires no modification of the home's electrical panel and works well for refrigerators, freezers, lamps, televisions, routers and similar equipment.
The downside is that hardwired lights, HVAC equipment and other circuits cannot conveniently be powered this way.
2. Transfer switch and selected home circuits
A more practical home-backup arrangement uses a proper transfer switch and power inlet. Your important circuits are selected ahead of time, allowing the power station to energize household wiring instead of running extension cords throughout the house.

3. Smart whole-home backup

A useful emergency strategy is:
Daytime: Solar → household loads → recharge batteries
Nighttime: Batteries → essential household loads
Next morning: Solar begins replenishing the batteries again
That cycle can stretch stored energy far beyond what the battery capacity alone would provide.
Add a generator for very long outages
One advantage of the F3800 Plus over many battery stations is its additional generator-charging capability. Anker specifies 240V generator charging/bypass, with the required adapter and configuration restrictions. (ankersolix.com)
That creates a strong hurricane or disaster configuration:
Solar first → batteries second → generator as the emergency backup.
Instead of operating a gasoline generator continuously, you can potentially run it periodically to recharge the battery bank, then shut it down while the batteries quietly power the home.

A practical whole-home configuration
For many households, I would consider a system along these lines:
F3800 Plus + at least one expansion battery + transfer switch/Home Power Panel + solar panels.
That provides 6,000W of 120/240V power and 7.68kWh of storage before further expansion. More expansion batteries can then be added according to the desired outage duration.

The main lesson
Don't design an outage system around the question “Can it power my entire house?”
Design it around:
“What must stay powered, how many watts does it require, and how many hours or days do I need it?”
